An overnight trip to BJP, including sleeping in cabins, eating in the dining hall, singing around a campfire, and stargazing, can be the highlight of a school year. In the Environmental Education (EE) program, students are introduced to various science concepts, taking advantage of the center’s forests, lakes, streams, and fields. Each day, the class is 90 minutes and is led by Penn’s professional and energetic teaching staff. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between the excitement and wonder of the camp experience and the studiousness of STEM exploration. Instructors make strong interpersonal connections with students, bringing opportunities for social-emotional growth in addition to academic learning. Evening programs are one hour each, with a finale group campfire with singing, skits, and stories.
