Compass and Orienteering

This basic introduction to orienteering – the science of using a compass and map to find your way – uses an interactive course to teach students how to use a compass to get from point A to point B. Students learn the concepts of “direction” and “bearing” and gain geographical knowledge of the cardinal and ordinal directions, magnetic versus true north, and important math concepts like degrees in a circle, angles, etc.
